Debbie Spidle
Operations Director

Debbie began attending Compass February 2005, just after the Main St. Church opened. She accepted Christ and was baptized in June 2005. Immediately, she joined a small group Bible study and began her relationship with Jesus. Through the ups and downs of life, Jesus has been her rock.

While Debbie was working at Blockbuster, she volunteered one day a week in the reception office, and liked the staff and the environment so much, she left her management job at Blockbuster for the opportunity to work at the church as a bookkeeper and secretary. A few years later, she was asked to supervise the facility team and monitor the facilities, and shortly after that she was asked to supervise the secretarial staff.

Debbie is the leader of a women’s Bible study small group, the DivorceCare support group and Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. She gets great satisfaction and joy helping others grow in their relationship with the Lord and see people find healing and hope in the support groups.

In her spare time, Debbie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watching the SF Giants baseball team, movies, hiking and just hanging out with Lucy, her schnoodle (schnauzer and poodle mix).

Cris Rury
Minister of Marriage and Family Ministry

Cris came to Compass in August of 2000.

Cris grew his passion for ministry at an early age. He was involved in his youth group and always thought it would be great to do ministry full time. His Sr. year in high school he went on a missions trip and it was there that God called him to full time ministry. Cris attended Word of Life Bible Institute in Schroon Lake New York. It was there that he was a camp counselor for the Summer. He loved working with the teenagers and felt the calling to youth ministry especially the middle school age group. After Word of Life Bible Institute Cris attended Liberty University in Lynchburg Virginia. It was there that he married his wife Jacey.

In 2000 Cris was called to be the middle school director at Compass. He loved working with the middle school students and was able to see lives changed. After 9 years of middle school ministry Cris transitioned into the marriage and family life ministry. Cris loves the opportunity to teach couples what a Godly marriage looks like. He loves to counsel couples and create events where families can get together and enjoy each other.

Cris loves to spend time with his family, watch movies, passion for Ford Mustangs, and he has a massive collection of over 200 mustang hot wheel cars. Cris has 3 children and is blessed to be part of this wonderful church.

Director of Senior’s Ministry Seniors Ministry

Born into a Christian Family, my Father was a Pastor in the Lutheran Church and my Mother was a Musician, Choir Director & organist. I was taught from an early age to love the Lord, but I had to make my relationship with the Lord my own. That took some soul searching and growth on my part.
Aside from my 45-year Career as a Meteorologist, a few highlights of my Christian Walk include: I taught Catechisms classes and participated in Church activities. We did a year-long class called Walking through the Bible, and I was on Church Counsel. As our sons grew, Jean and I lead the Youth groups and scheduled weekend retreats to the Mountains that included in-depth Bible Studies. I have participated on the Worship Team and in the Choir. We have always continued our Christian Education and participated in weekly Bible studies. Church activities were a main focus for our family.
We moved to the Monterey area in 1994 and became members of Compass in 1995. Since coming to Compass, I have sung in the Choir, helped with Men’s Bible Study, sung on the Worship team for many years and have recently helped to lead the Padre and Marina Services.
I have continued to Grow in the Lord. My prayer life has been vitally important in my growth. After our elder son got sick and I retired from the station, I have been praying that the Lord would lead me and that He would use me for the remainder of my life to serve Him.
I have had to dig deeper in my faith than ever before since our son fought cancer and finally went to be with the Lord in 2016. I know that God is Sovereign and that He loves us all, no matter what the circumstances. When this opportunity was offered to be Pastor to Seniors, I felt the Holy Spirit was leading me to serve Him. A few of the many verses that I have relied on for the past few years is 1 Thessalonians 5:18-22: “Be joyful always. Pray continually: give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not put out the Spirit’s fire: do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything, hold on to good and avoid every kind of evil.”

Director of Middle School Ministry

I’m proud to say I’m a product of our own Middle School ministry here at Compass Church. Back in 2000, I was struggling with some junk in my life, but my Grandma dragged me to church and connected me with Pastor Cris, who at the time was leading the Middle School ministry. That connection changed my life!

My first introduction to ministry was as an Intern through the Compass Middle School ministry while in high school, and I’ve been involved in youth ministry, in some capacity ever since.  I spent a year down in LA, where I followed my passion of Mixed Martial Arts and taught professional fighters No Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Yes, I’m just a little bit crazy, but you kind of have to be to work with middle schoolers. I’ve led youth ministries all over California. I was a Program Director and an Adventure Recreation Coordinator at Sugar Pine Christian Camps; this is the same camp that we now take our middle schoolers to. And, I was even a Missionary in Dublin, Ireland for two years working in: Prison and Community Outreach programs, three different youth ministries, four different high schools teaching about Jesus, and as an intern for two churches.

After a long time away, I’m back home to hopefully help lead the next generation of middle school students to a deeper love and relationship with The Lord. It’s what saved me.

Women’s Ministry

Lisa Morales
Director of Women’s Ministry

Lisa was led to Compass Church in 2006 seeking a place for her children to gain spiritual guidance.  What she found was that and much more.

Lisa’s desire to learn and understand the human condition is insatiable.  She received a degree in Psychology and Biology but found the most educated she has ever been on humanity has been from her study of the Bible.  Sharing this ever-growing knowledge in the Word and her love for Jesus is her passion.

Lisa began her journey into the Bible by first serving in Sonshine Kids, teaching 1st 2nd and 3rd graders.  She, then, started attending Women’s Bible Study and eventually was asked to lead  small group.   To her great surprise, she was asked to help teach in Kid Central leading the 9am service.  But even more surprising was when she was asked to step in as the Leader of Women’s Ministry.  Her love for the ladies and children of Compass became as powerful as her love for the bible and she considers everything she gets to do in this position a great blessing.   Lisa never tires of serving the amazing people of Compass Church and hopes to continue to share more and more.

When she is not at Compass, Lisa loves on her four kids and the youth that come through her hip hop dance studio in Hollister.  No she is not a dancer but she sure loves to watch.
